Customer Review: difficult to fill pipe and insert into sleeve
A lot of parts, but instructions are excellent. Filling pipe with cement fully assembled was extremely difficult - maybe my mix wasn’t thin enough - had to use copper pipe to force cement down. Be prepared with helper and have patience. Putting pipe in took four guys and if you don’t get pipe in EXACTLY straight, edge will catch on plastic insert and it will not go in (and will dig into plastic sleeve). I have installed a fixed pipe board before with larger diamter and if I had it to do over, I would buy that one - it was A LOT easier to fill and mount and given the weight of the filled pipe, I won’t ever remove this one from the ground :-)!

I did much research, and decided on this in-ground hoop combo. I liked the width of the backboard for the price. I have 3 young sons, and bought this for them to grow up with. We have already had 300$ of enjoyment out of the hoop in the two weeks I have had it up. It did take 3 days before we could play on it (1 day for base, 1 day for pole, 1 day for both to dry). No regrets a great purchase!!!

Customer Review: Spalding Basketball System
The backboard and rim are good enough, although a bit less stable than I had hoped. The problem and disappointment for me was the installation of the pole into the sleeve in the concrete. You are supposed to insert the pole in a plastic sleeve in the cement, let it set, then remove the pole, fill the pole with cement, let it set, and re-insert the pole ito the sleeve. Unfortunately, the sleeve contracted requiring me to chip away some of the concrete, and then I had to climb a ladder and pound the pole (doused in a lubricant) with a sledge hammer into the sleeve in order to insert it. I bought this system as I was under the impression that I’d be able to remove the pole if I decided I wanted to move it. Not going to happen now. The pole will never be removed unless I break out all of the concrete. If you want to have the option of possibly moving the system, this product isn’t for you.

Product was delivered in four boxes in good condition. I was impressed with the quality of manufacture and heaviness of the backboard and pole even before installation. Installation can be tricky - very important to get the bolt plate straight, level and parallel with playing surface. This can be difficult to accomplish with quick set concrete but spend the time at this stage as the rest of the installtion is very dependent on it. Once the concrete was dry, setting up the pole, frame and backboard were pretty easy, but you will need a helper. The instruction were pretty good. Have used the backboard for a couple of days and am impressed with the solid feel off the glass (acrylic) and the rim. This was the prime reason I chose this product and have not been disappointed. Overall, I would say this was a good value.

This took a while to put together, but it was worth it. The frame for the backboard is steel, not plastic like some others, and the backboard material itself, while not very thick, is quite strong and clear (it’s the same stuff they use for my glasses). The only scratch on it is one that must have happened when I was moving the poles out of the package. The backboard is also noticeably larger than others. The powder coat finish looks almost like a Teflon coating; I’m confident it will last. The hydraulic adjustment works great. The rim is seriously heavy duty and thick.
