A good vertical jump is necessary for sports such as basketball, volleyball, and football. It can even translate to track and field activities. If you want to know how to improve vertical jump, you need to know how to measure your vertical. Stand near a flat wall on a flat surface. Are you good at shooting threes? Let’s say that you are. During the game, you take 5 attempts from three point range and hit 3. You have 9 points already. We’ve already established that your shooting range is good. So now defense is playing you a little closer. Don’t get upset. We will take advantage of it. When you get the ball, use your quick first step to blow right pass your defender. You take a short jumper, made it, and got fouled. (And One). You make the free throw. Three plus nine equals 12 total points. While heading back on defense you anticipate a pass and make a steal. Then, you go in for a wide open lay-up. There you go for another 2 for 14 points total. Another trip down the court on offense you are at the 3 point line. You penetrate in and on your release you are fouled again. You have 2 free throws and you make both. You have 16. The defense leaves you wide open just inside the 3 point line and you nail it. That makes your total 18. O …

Developing your vertical project is crucial to many sports like basketball, volleyball, or track and field, and many more sports. This will give you an advantage over pretty much anybody else on the field. Jumping higher, sprinting faster, spiking higher will make you the star player on any team. So how you do it? To jump higher, you need maximum leg power. An easy way way to look at this is power = strength x speed. So to increase your power, you need to increase your strength. The best way to do this is weight training with lunges, squats, and leg presses. But what you want to do are low reps with high weights. Remember you want lots of power, so you need lots of strength, but you dont want to get so bogged down with lots of reps because this will develop your strength, but it will also slow you down. So low reps, high weight to maximize your ability to develop power. Develop a routine that you can follow 2 - 3 times a week, with about 48 hrs of res …

Boxing Out The first thing to understand about boxing out is that it is the best way to create space for yourself so you can get the ball. It isn’t just to keep your man from getting it necessarily, but also a way to make it easier for you to get it. You must make contact first to square up the player you are boxing out. The contact should be to stop him before turning and getting your rear into him. Stay low and get into his legs. If you are in his legs, he will be unable to really jump or move. By getting in the opposing player’s legs you make it difficult for him to be in an athletic position. Players sometimes ask me why they seem to get pushed out of position sometimes. I tell them that it is usually because they don’t have a solid enough base position. Get low and if you find yourself getting pushed around then get into the weight room and build up those legs. Make …

However, we can empower ourselves to break the stereotype. One way is through competitive and non-competitive sports. Sports can be classified in two ways, team sports and individual sports. Team sports such as, basketball, volleyball and soccer are in need of people to play. These are the typical numbers; five on a basketball team, two or six on a volleyball team and a soccer team needs eleven players. Team sports instills many positive character traits in individuals. These traits can be good sportsmanship, getting along with others, dependency on others to do their part or play their position, trust building and group dynamics just to name a few. Individual sports is just you. You have to be the one to go the distance. A few good individual sports are; jogging, bicycling, swimming, golf, dance and weight training. They instill self-motivation, self-sacrifice, self-determination to stay active and to continue. Being active in any sport is good …
