If one coach is fired, other teams don’t feel as bad getting rid of theirs. Why teams care about what others is doing is stupid, and they should only worry about their organization. Coaches fired so far: P.J. Carlesimo, Thunder. Fired Nov 22, team record: 1-12. Unfortunate for Carlesimo, but this team was expected to be the worst team in the NBA this year. Seems a little early to fire him, but I guess the front office didn’t like the way players were developing under him and the direction he was leading the team. Eddie Jordan, Wizards. Fired Nov 24, team record: 1-10. Hard to win with 40% of your starting lineup out, especially $111 million of it. The Wizards played well with Arenas out last year, but PJ’s firing gave the Wizards a quick excuse to get rid of Jordan and get a fresh face in there. Sam Mitchell, Toronto. Fired Dec 3, team record: 8-9. Mitchell’s team played decent but were expected to do big things this year in Toronto. O’Neal has played decent and was a good trade becau …

The Complete Guide to Coaching Girls’ Basketball
“Coach Hatchell’s book is a must-read for every girls’ basketball coach. She is fantastic in every phase of the game, and I love watching her teams play.”—Roy Williams, head men’s basketball coach, University of North Carolina, and Associated Press Coach of the Year, 2006
What does it take to turn a good coach into a great one? You need to be a teacher, a motivator, a guru of X’s and O’s. Coach Sylvia Hatchell shows you how she manages all these roles and gives you her winning advice to creating a team of champions.
Head coach of the University of North Carolina’s women’s team, Coach Hathcell combines the Tar Heels’ longstanding tradition of basketball greatness with her personal dedication to guiding young women as she teaches you how to:
- Communicate effectively to get peak performances from 11- to 18-year-old girls
- Teach all the fundamentals of the game and run a productive, high-energy practice
- Develop a formidable offense and tenacious defense
- Master 75 of her favorite drills, ranging in difficulty from beginner to advanced
Customer Review: Very Helpful I’ve been a player for years, but never a coach. This is a great book for the basics in coaching skills as well as everything else that comes with coaching - team dynamics, setting up try-outs, dealing with parents - you name it, it’s in there! Customer Review: The Ideal tool for girls’ coaching The only coaching book you may ever need! Coach Hatchell hasn’t left anything aside. From the psychology of young women and how to deal with it, to the most subtle nuances of coaching, it is all in there. Well illustrated, the explanations are easy to understand and the chapters are arranged in a logical way. I wish the photos would have been in full color instead of black & white but it would have made the book more expensive. I highly recommend it to anyone, whether you are a senior coach or just stepping in the field.

Developing your vertical project is crucial to many sports like basketball, volleyball, or track and field, and many more sports. This will give you an advantage over pretty much anybody else on the field. Jumping higher, sprinting faster, spiking higher will make you the star player on any team. So how you do it? To jump higher, you need maximum leg power. An easy way way to look at this is power = strength x speed. So to increase your power, you need to increase your strength. The best way to do this is weight training with lunges, squats, and leg presses. But what you want to do are low reps with high weights. Remember you want lots of power, so you need lots of strength, but you dont want to get so bogged down with lots of reps because this will develop your strength, but it will also slow you down. So low reps, high weight to maximize your ability to develop power. Develop a routine that you can follow 2 - 3 times a week, with about 48 hrs of res …

Though they have been tested this year, they just have not been able to come through. Yet in these games, Akognon put up 24, 24, and 23 points respectively. Akognon has been a dominant shooter this season, averaging 23.5 points per game, 36.2 percent on three pointers, and over 88 percent from the free throw line. Some have said that his shooting skills are of NBA caliber, but he definitely needs to improve his passing and point guard skills, since he does not have the size to be a shooting guard. Right now, Akognon averages more turnovers than assists per game, and would have a very difficult time in the NBA as a point guard if he doesn’t learn how to play the position. Regardless, Akognon is a thrill to watch in college. He makes circus shots, drains three pointers, and controls the tempo of the game single-handedly. If you want to …

You Haven’t Taught Until They Have Learned: John Wooden’s Teaching Principles and Practices Not only was John Wooden a great basketball coach, he was a master teacher. In fact, he was a great coach because he was a master teacher. What Wooden has learned from others in the classroom and perfected on the practice court are fundamental principles of effective teaching, which are conveyed in You Haven’t Taught Until They Have Learned: John Wooden’s Teaching Principles and Practices. Co-author Swen Nater, one of Wooden’s former players at UCLA, provides insightful first-hand accounts on the many life lessons he learned from Wooden that he has applied to his life since becoming a teacher himself. Customer Review: John Wooden John Wooden is an amazing coach. he led UCLA for many successful years. So, while I haven’t read this book yet, I am assuming it must be the most masterfully written book ever produced. It is going to be a smooth read, almost as smooth and a micheal jordan stride to the hoop and open mouthed slam dunk. Customer Review: Wooden is the master Any coach should take the philosophies of John Wooden to heart, they work! Using his teachings you can win games and the players have a heck of a lot better experience. After a dismal record in only my 2nd season fresh out of college I started researching his work, and applying it - only to have one losing season over the next 7. Started to get away from his teachings recently making my frustration levels go through the roof so bought this book as a refresher, it helped and recommend it to all coaches.

Duke Basketball DVD - A Clinic with Coach K
Duke University mens basketball program has been the model for success in Coach Mike Krzyzewskis tenure at the helm. Under his direction, the Blue Devils have been perennial contenders for conference and national titles. The Duke Basketball Video Series DVD offers special insight into the key components that made all of those Duke wins, championships, and awards possible. The program transports you right to Cameron Indoor Stadium to see and hear what takes place during Duke practice sessions. Each segment features Coach K and the Duke team explaining and demonstrating. Customer Review: Great Lessons from Coack K Excellent resource for basketball coaches or parents who want to learn from one of the all-time greats. Highly recommended. Customer Review: Pathetic. Simply Duke propaganda, nothing more. Coach K gives away no “secrets, but a lot of platitudes. The knowledge dispensed is already known to any student of the game. In short, unless you are a rabid Duke fan, there is absolutely no point in buying this overpriced restatement of the obvious. Save your money for another item.
