The 7 Best Ways to Play Better BasketballPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesYou have to be physically and mentally prepared and practice, practice, practice to improve your performance in the game. Here are seven areas you can work on if you want to have a great game on the court: 1. Sprint for Speed. Training with sprints will help increase your speed on the court. A great drill for speed is to do the following series of sprints: starting at the baseline, sprint to and touch the free throw line and come back; then sprint to and touch the mid-court line and come back; then sprint to and touch the farthest free throw line and return; finally sprint to and touch the opposite baseline and return. Doing a few sets of these sprints on a regular basis will do wonders for your court speed. 2. Build Up Those Legs. Jumping is one of the most important skills on the basketball court, and going high requires super strong legs. You can give your leg muscles a big boost by including lunges, squats and step-ups in your practice routine. Practicing with hopping and jumping …

The Number One Thing You Can Do to Improve Your Vertical ProjectPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesBut not just any weight training. Developing your vertical project is crucial to many sports like basketball, volleyball, or track and field, and many more sports. This will give you an advantage over pretty much anybody else on the field. Jumping higher, sprinting faster, spiking higher will make you the star player on any team. So how you do it? To jump higher, you need maximum leg power. An easy way way to look at this is power = strength x speed. So to increase your power, you need to increase your strength. The best way to do this is weight training with lunges, squats, and leg presses. But what you want to do are low reps with high weights. Remember you want lots of power, so you need lots of strength, but you dont want to get so bogged down with lots of reps because this will develop your strength, but it will also slow you down. So low reps, high weight to maximize your ability to develop power. Develop a routine that you can follow 2 - 3 times a week, with about 48 hrs of res …

NBA Rookie Watch - Who is Anthony Morrow?Posted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesHe weighs in at 210 lbs / 95.3 kg. Morrow plays for the Golden State Warriors and he made his starting debut against the LA Clippers on Saturday 15 November. The result was a 37-point game, this set the NBA record for points by an undrafted rookie making his first start. This effort came out of the blue. Morrow from Georgia Tech came in under the radar to stun the Clippers. He played 42 minutes and shot 15-20 from the field including 4-5 from behind the three point line. Morrow followed up this outstanding effort with 25 points against Portland. In that game he shot 8-12 with 4-5 three point attempts. Morrow almost did not make it into the NBA. Just a few weeks ago he was thinking he could be playing in Ukraine and he had his agent making contingency plans to that effect. In his days at Georgia Tech Morrow was a solid player. He lead the ACC in 3-point shooting as a senior and setting a school record for career free-throw percentage. Morrow was little more than a perimeter player and …

NBA Age Limit Unfair to Young MenPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesAnd the NBA will benefit because rookies coming in will be armed with the requisite skills and savoir-faire to better represent themselves and, by extension, the NBA’s product. These seem to be sound arguments, on both sides. The only thing they ignore is the voice of the one in the middle - the athlete himself. Let’s say you are a 20-year-old college basketball player, and gifted. You’re six-eight or six-nine, you can run like a horse and fly like a bird, and you’re busting at the seams to test your mettle in the crucible of the NBA. But the powers-that-be say you need to wait another year - for your own good, of course. Even though you’re old enough to be sent overseas to fight and possibly to die, you’re not quite mature enough for the rigors of professional basketball. Another year of school is what you need, they agree - another year of seasoning and sophistication. Never mind that you have yet to see the inside of a classroom - that the only two buildings on campus you’ve visite …

Landing Your First JobPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesHere are some of the ways we feel you can overcome the odds, and still achieve success on the job front. NETWORKING It’s like the old saying goes, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” No matter what career you eventually choose to pursue, this is a universal law that will stay true throughout your professional career. Shaking hands and leaving your mark on as many people as possible will always lead to greater success in life. Don’t be afraid to ask questions either, talk to your school counselor, the local store owner, the security guard at the mall, anyone who you think may know a thing or two about finding a job. COMMUNICATION SKILLS “Yah mean,” “the bull,” “yam sayin,” although all these sayings might be good when you’re kicking back with your friends, at a job interview, they will usually get you out the door. There is a time and a place for everything, I must admit. Just like anybody, I like to talk smack with the best of them, but when it’s time to get serious, I put awa …

Basketball Backboards - Acrylic Vs Glass BackboardsPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesIf you are several feet away and look at a backboard you may not be able to tell the difference between an acrylic one and a glass one. They are both clear, they both come in the same sizes, and they both have the outline markings and shooter’s square. When you throw the ball and go for a rebound, that is were the difference comes into view. Glass backboards are the backboards used by the pros. Professional style backboards are made of inch thick tempered glass. The outline of the backboard and the shooter’s square are fired into the glass so they won’t wear away. A regulation size backboard is 42″ x 72″, but glass backboards come in many different sizes. They are dent and scratch resistant and won’t get dusty. What is so great about glass? The main reason why professionals love glass is because of the way the ball interacts with the glass. Rebounds bounce off immediately and crisply. There is virtually no reverberation with glass. Glass will not dent so there are no worries about t …

Great Ways to Increase Your Vertical For BasketballPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesSo what can you do to change that? Exercise exercise exercise. It’s not that hard. Just do it. This is basically the only way for you to increase your vertical jump. People ask me all the time: What are some exercises that I can do to increase my vertical jump and get faster? There are many different answers to that question in that there are many exercises one can do to accomplish this. Although If you have strong legs you wouldn’t do the same exercises as of a person who doesn’t have very powerful legs but is a sprinter. Let’s say you want more power in your legs. You would need to start out with squats. This is an excellent workout for building strength in ones legs. If you have enough power you need to be doing calf raises and head to the track and work on your sprinting. You will want to increase your speed and get some quickness in those legs of yours. Of course there’s more exercises available, but for reasons unknown I won’t go into too much details here. This is just a taste …

The major benefit is that they have access to hundreds of television shows that are not offered through standard television viewing. This is especially attractive to those who have a particular affinity to certain types of programs. One big example is high definition sports programming. Taking Advantage of a Friendship in the Field of PlayPosted by: Mr.Basketball in Basketball Sites and The Best ArticlesThe unfortunate part about the entire thing is that I had to skip my recreational basketball game last week, and I was playing against a team made up of friends of mine. It is always fun to play against your friends, I even thinks it makes me play harder, in my attempt to one-up the guys I know. According to the stats on my league tracking software, my friend’s team should have destroyed us, and as it turns out they did. I kinda figured that might happen, but that didn’t keep me from wanting to drive on them and talk a little trash on the way back down the court. As we all know, playing against friends is a lot different than playing against strangers. Whether it is in a recreational league, or in the backyard, playing against friends always seems to elevate your game just a little bit more, all while deflating you just a touch more when you lose. So to give you an advantage against your friends, take the following pieces of advice: 1. You know these guys - If you have played against, … |
